1619 Podcast
1619 podcast was created by the New York Times and stars Nikole Hannah Jones as the series host. The writers and hosts retell one of Americas darkest historical periods and reveal the many ways in which origins of slavery continue to impact modern society. This episode, "The Economy That Built Slavery" shows the connection of slavery to economic upward mobility for the U.S in a very engaging/ interesting and almost poetic way. The episode can be integrated into a lesson introducing the transatlantic slave trade and early U.S economy that transformed the U.S into a major powerhouse. This podcast does a great job of informing students of significant historical information and engaging them through story telling.
